Steelhead Select (ShS) is an elite team of female triathletes based in Portland, Oregon. Based at Steelhead Coaching, ShS is comprised of ITU World Champions, US National Champions and Northwest Regional Champions as well as women who are Olympians and former NCAA runners, swimmers, rowers and cyclists who are pursuing triathlon at the elite, professional and age group level. We currently have athletes competing at the sprint, Olympic, 70.3 and Ironman distances, as professionals, age groupers and aspiring elites.
In 2018, Steelhead Select athletes will be competing at the ITU Triathlon and Duathlon World Championships in Australia and Denmark, and the 70.3 Ironman World Championships in South Africa. We will also be competing at local and regional races across the Pacific Northwest; at the USAT National Championships in Ohio; and at Ironman races in Canada, Arizona and California. Over the past two years, ShS athletes have made the podium at over 80 races, in Oregon, across the country and around the world. We represent four age categories which, in addition to overall field wins, means multiple podium opportunities at many races.
The women of ShS train on average 15-22 hours a week while working full-time as consultants, project managers, medical students, human resources managers, and IT developers. We train in the pool and the gym, on the road and track, together when possible, but also on our own. Our team captain is Olympic rower and ITU World Champion, Juliet Thompson Hochman and we are coached and advised by Shawn Bostad, founder and owner of Steelhead Coaching and others. We are seeking sponsorship to defray training, coaching, equipment and travel expenses. We are also looking for in-kind support for clothing, equipment, bike transport, and massage, physical therapy and bike tech services. We are currently seeking a title sponsor for the 2018 season.
In the first months since our website launched in early January, Steelhead Select has generated significant excitement on social media, with over 250 followers on Instagram in the first week nad over 2000 people reached on Facebook. Over a dozen women have contacted us to inquire about training with the team and we’ve attracted the attention of our national governing body, USA Triathlon, as a potential center of excellence. Our goal is to become a magnet for female triathletes in the Pacific Northwest and across the country and we are excited to find a sponsorship partner interested in growing with us as we expand and excel.
Operating under a nickname given to us by some of our training partners - Bad Ass Triathlon Women - the BATWomen form a supportive and close-knit training team. In addition to pursuing our individual goals, we maintain a competitive but balanced environment in which we both challenge and fortify each other in training and in life. We invite you to partner with as we chase podiums and go after some of triathlon’s biggest crowns.
